Amazing that he'll soon be 70. How time flies and how great it is that he's still performing.
Funny story, my fave group Rammstein, who I've mentioned in the past, is coming out with a new album next year. What the heck does this have to do with Gord and his 70th birthday, you ask?...Well, I'll tell ya. Some fans are speculating that after the next album and tour they're going to retire because they are just getting "too old" to keep going. Especially the lead singer. The lead singer is 45!! His mother was born the year AFTER GL.
Someone actually posted on a message board: "You don't want to see them touring when they're 60 do you??"
When I see things like this, of course, I have to think of our Gord, who's going to be entering his 8th decade of life and still going strong and I have myself a good laugh at what some people consider "too old".

I'm with you on that. When I was a lot younger than I am now, to be truthful, I don't think that I would've appreciated Gordon or his music when I was a teen. Now days, I drive my mother nuts when I put in a CD of his music & sing along with it as loud as I can. Even better is the fact that my nephew showed me that my DVD player can also paly CD's as well. It makes housework just fly by when I put one in.

For me TT it's the opposite. I was only 13 going on 14 when I discovered Gordon Lightfoot's music. I couldn't find anyone in my age group that was interested in his music, They were all rock, The Stampeders, April Wine, aso...

Maybe that's why I had so little friends growing up ?  But I also did go to The Stampeders, April Wine shows... but never put Lightfoot's music on the back burner, so to speak. And today my musical hero is as popular as ever, if not more. :)

hey, jess
the first 'rock concert' i saw was at the high school...it was the Stampeders...i wasn't even attending yet but i saw a poster at my elementary school so got tix and heading there on a friday night ...i stood right up at the stage, went deaf aas i gawked at the performers as well as the tall high school gals around me...they wore dresses back then...anyhow a few years later when i attended, we had April Wine too

Lightfoot Lps were always playing late at night on my bro's all-in-one cheapo stereo unit in his bedroom...when i smelled smoke coming into my room from under the door or from his window into mine, i knew i'd be hearing gord or croce soon after

anyhow, the first school friend i met who was gord possessed and could play all his tunes by ear, soon became a longtime bandmate...it's great to collaborate with folks who have similar, great tastes

long live the Lightfootian memories that have shaped us and long live Gord

Hey jj,

The Stampeders were also my first rock concert. Great show "The Strobe Light" on Ronnie King all dressed in white, is something that was awesome to see.
