Hi there I was sitting on the couch at home listening to the new Supertramp CD that just came out oblivious to what was going on that day until I turned the news on that night. Like many here I cannot imagine this world without GL in it!

My own father suffered a similar fate 6 months afte GL got sick, my dad almost died from an AAA and he was treated by Hamilton Health Sciences as well. Knowing that all of the proceeds that night were going to HHS I definetly wanted to go for two reasons, saving both GL's life and that of my dad.

When GL and the band walked on stage that night he was greeted by a thunderous roar and applause to which he said " Sorry I'm a little late" The first couple of songs were a bit rusty however he and the band quickly got into the swing of things. The concert was interspersed with his comments about McMaster Hospital, the staff, doctors and nurses plus his tale of recording Harmony from a hospital bed! LOL

He also pointed out his surgeon who was in the front row Dr M as I call him, Dr M stood up and he was greeted with a thunderous applause as well.

It was really great meeting BillW, Charlene, Jenney, Minstrel Man, John Fowles and the others at the restaurant before the concert.

:)

Thanks, Gord H, that night must have been worth all the money in the world. And he opened by saying Sorry Im a little late, What a guy, simply awesome person ,the very best.

He was 2 weeks from the Moncton, NB. date when that tragic thing happen. If he ever gets to do it, supposed to be next April, I wonder if he still will say that,"Sorry for being a little late". It will be four and a half years, in April 2007.

Ive always said this, that he chose the best for last. :D

Not to worry, I will start the thunderous applause, if Im so lucky, as to be there.

Thank's for replying to me Gord H, your a good buddy...Jesse. :)

It is great to see gordh posting again I trust that you are well

Regarding the concerts, one of the miseries of getting old is that one's memory starts to falter
As soon as I saw this topic I searched corfid for a report on the Hamilton November 2004 experience but failed to find anything yet I was convinced that Char(lene) had written one of her best reports on those two magical concerts and that she had posted it on corfid.
This morning after a weekend away from my computer preparing for the visit starting this evening of my young nephew Matthew from Manchester, who I believe likes IYCRMM quite a lot,I thought "sod the corfid search system lets try google" but a search for "char(lene) corfid hamilton" also produced nowt.
determined not to be beaten,I went to alt.music.lightfoot and searched within that Newsgroup for "hamilton author charlene nowt again. So almost in desperation I changed "charlene" to "char" and bingo I found her fantastic thread subject "Gord Got It Done" (definitely one to add to my forthcoming webring's Newsgroup page as a highlight of the group's postings
her original posting is at:-
Link
the very first of 18 replies was from the "zippo" man himself and reads
"Char, I can't find the words. This is just a beautiful, beautiful piece of
writing, which capured the whole experience for me, and I'm sure for
everyone else who couldn't be there.

Thank you for this. It's a keeper.
the Derek (Kidd)_"

My wife Susan also wrote a fine report Topic: A Few Thoughts on Hamilton
and it was posted under my name at:-
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb...=002802#000002
OK really The only things Char omitted were the the pre- and post-concert events
On the sunday a pre-concert dinner had been arranged at Walt’s Beanery and Taps which was virtually adjacent to our hotel which itself was right opposite the concert hall in the Hamilton Place Complex (arrangements made by Steve a.k.a. Minstrel man)
In that topic I showed a picture of one of the set of badges we all wore
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfoot/johnbadge.jpg
As originally suggested by BillW and/or Gaby
see"-
http://www.corfid.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ul...ic;f=1;t=00260
badges that Susan and I made and mailed to all that we knew were attending (including one to Gaby in the UK). The sharper eyed amongst you might spot that this incorporated a cryptically positioned picture of a polar bear this proved far too cryptic for all but Jimmy Jones' baby son Harrison who was the only person to have his badge pinned to his right breast.(we therefore had great fun telling just about everybody else to think of the words to "Flying Blind" and move their badge accordingly!!
It was fabulous meeting so many fellow fans especially meeting again long time "groupie" Lynne Ackerman
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/lightfo...arry_Keane.jpg
Lynne with a drummer "back"stage (actually under it) in May 2001
who we were sad to find later had a serious medical problem very soon thereafter and has been in a Toronto hospital in a coma ever since.
Also staying in that hotel was a certain favourite son of Orillia Ontario Canada
and we were most pleased when that man and his band were able to persuade the hotel bar personnel to remain open later than usual on the (Sunday) night after the first concert so that they could spend a very long time with those of us lucky enough to go to the bar.

Welcome Lazy Morning. I live in VA although it's Northern Va. I happen to have one extra ticket to the Aug 2nd GL concert, beautifully located in the pitt right in front of the Wolf Trap Stage. The ticket is pricey at $125 but it is yours if you want it. ;) Hope to meet you there

ELizabeth 07-29-2006 09:50 AM

LazyMorning,

I'm really sorry you can't join us but BillW and the rest of us will fill you in on the concert.
'Lizbet (Thanks to Sir John Fowles)
