If you haven't yet, try to listen to the album "Mona Bone Jakon", its from 1969 and was his first recording after he went thru his bout with tuberculosis and decided to pare down the excessive production his previous albums "New Masters" and "Matthew and Son" had. It's a great mix of pop and folk and is engineered extemely well. It was produced by Paul Samwel-Smith who was always able to bring out the best in Cat.

in my opinion, of all folk artists who have been mentioned prior, cat stevens and gordon lightfoot could not be more different. their styles and lyrics are almost polar opposites.
besides the use of a guitar, i just don't see the similarity.

Hello from England again! News item yesterday, Wednesday re Cat Stevens is that he may be planning a "musical" of his life!!
He believes that his greatest gift is his singing and song writing and that he should promote that. Being a Muslim elder would probably not allow him to appear as himself though. Any suggestions who might play him at different stages of his life?

You know, it's weird that you mention this. I was in a Blockbuster the other day and walked past a cover box of Richard Gere in "King David" and he looked just like CS circa 1972, especially inside the album gatefold of "Teaser and the Firecat". Before "Chicago" I never would have connected Gere with a musical...but who knows. I wonder if Gord ownes any CS cd's...
