Borderstone, I think you should sent that card. It's pretty funny/bizarre, and Gord could probably use a laugh right about now.

BILLW 10-24-2003 12:34 PM

Borderstone,

Yes - send it and sign all our names, I'll pay for the card.

Thanks Char, whenever any of our friends have special events our group of frineds usually send a card shower that is everyone sends a card and their thoughts for the occasion. Perhaps that would be a good idea for Gord, I intend to send one Monday. Please remember the postage stamp rate difference between U.S. and Canada. Thanks, Char.

1st class US postage to Canada is 60 cents (unless you're sending an oversize or heavy card/letter.)

Borderstone 10-25-2003 03:30 PM

Okay, you talked me into it! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I'll go buy it A.S.A.P and send it out. Besides,if they are still trying to sell last year's card,I guess it'll help the card co. too! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif I'll keep ya posted! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

If you really want it to get there on time, I would suggest that you take it into your local PO and have them weigh it and meter postage it, that way there is no way it can come back to you. All foreign and Canadian mail requires more postage if the card is oversized or undersized so please just take it to the PO.

Borderstone 10-26-2003 04:05 PM

http://www.corfid.com/ubb/confused.gif The Pacific Ocean??!! Why would you want me to take it there? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Seriously,I'll do that. The post office that is. http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif Thanks for the advice! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif byenow!

I have thought it strange ever since I arrived in the States that here you have POST offices but the MAILman delivers the MAIL and the whole lot is sort of run by USPS The US POSTal Service. In England by way of contrast the post is delivered by a POSTie who works from a similarly named
POST Office run nowadays by a semi-commercial outfit now called
POST Office Counters but their POST is carried around the UK by vehicles and
trains and planes bearing the logo Royal MAIL
All very confusing!!!
Some sample pictures

Al UK readers will be very familiar with POSTman Pat shown here in his POSTbus
http://www.ragbone.net/shop/ertl/pos...bus300_227.gif
here is an old royal MAIL delivery van
http://www.nostalgia.co.uk/pages/rmdg85.jpg
and the very latest thing a "Scootable"
http://www.totalbike.com/news/images/2001/scootable.JPG
I was unable to find a MAIL plane pic but found a nice animated gif of MAIL Plane stamps and then found that the picture display system here does not cover animated gifs so you'll have to see it at- Later thanks to Jimmy iI got it working fine:-

in sequence the planes are an Airbus, Concorde,Trident,Vickers VC10,Comet <A
and of course do not forget the unlucky RMS Titanic

Notre that all British non-military ships are called RMS (Royal Mail Ship)

Very interesting John, thanks for those pics and the UK post history. Now the latest vehicle that "mail people" are using in our line of work is a scooter that is battery operated and very fast for mail delivery, you should be seeing them soon on streets throughout the country.

I had such a close call at the grocery store last night when I went to buy the card for Gordon Lightfoot! I got into the greeting card section and then saw that it wasn't there! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/eek.gif I found out the greeting card person had been in and at first I smacked (gently) my forehead saying,"Aw..man!" Fortunatly,I'm not one to give up that easy! I must've searched in every bin for nearly 15 minutes trying to see if there was an off chance they'd forgotten one! I moved card after card until finally I lifted up a certain one and it's backing place card...and there it was http://www.corfid.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Whew! I must have been destined to buy that card and it also makes me feel I should have sent it last year. Well,I'm going to drop a line to GL along with it and take it the P.O. tomorrow! This has been Cliff Clavin...er AH,Borderstone! Later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

I'll try to mail it out before Saturday is over but if I don't find the time this weekend I'll surely do it Monday! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif Happy Halloween to all that enjoy it. DMD3, would it be helpful to go in to your first post and paste GL's address (See Char1's post from Oct. 24.) there so people can see the address on first glance? Just a suggestion... I want my favorite singer to have a card-filled birthday.
