Gords Gold

"Salute" is still my favorite album. It is the one I told myself I will have him sign someday if I ever get to meet him. I first met Gord in 1999, and that's just what I did.

He said, "We had a lot of fun making this album."

I remmeber seeing Gordon on "Entertainment Tonight" in 1982 or '83 when they interviewed him about his upcoming LP. He had just been sober a little over a year and the voice over from Mary Hart said (not exact quote),"Lightfoot knows the business and he knows he needs a hit to stay on top!"

From the scens I recall,he was recording the title track. Interesting to see him then. :)

Waiting For You. There is now a scratch at the end of the song Restless, I have to go on a hunt for another copy....ARGH! I downloaded the whole CD into my computer some time ago, so I could make a copy, but I gotta have the real thing...sigh.

Some time ago Our Watchman said he had a few extra copies of WFY. You should check with him.

Interesting repost Border.I can say for sure that for the past 8 or 10 months or so,in my jeep,WFY has been spinning round and round. It will not eject.I am quite familiar with every song on this CD,and that is just fine with me
as it is a great CD.
I would have to say that"The Wreck" is the one that I have listened to the most times overall. Not because it is my favorite, tho it is one of many favorites of mine, that song still raises the hair on me neck and I never grow tired of it.Never will.

Several come to mind. "Beautiful" and the Gord's Gold hits, but, the one that stands out as a man's man type of song that stirs my heart is "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" about taming the land and laying rails, creating history in the 1800's. I can 'see' it happening, hear the 'ping' of the hammers pounding in the spikes, etc. Gordon is a perceptive, talented storyteller that brings a passion to music. He has influenced me for 35 years to learn and play my Martin well, with music that MEANS something, not just to sell a record.

Ranger - you mention "Gotta Get away" (now)

I *love* the way the song (Gotta Get Away) preceeds the birds , Loons I believe, on "Whispers of the North" in the beginning. (if memory serves). Its as if... he did get away, and is then in the wilderness.

I do love listening to those two back-to-back for that reason. Even if its the coincidence of song order, man does it work for me. On At least the vinyl LP, its as if the two blend from the last elecetric guitar riff hanging to the [Loons] that intro Whispers.

As a snowshoer, as I know I mentioned here before, Whispers of the North is my "pysching"-up song going through gear before deep winter excursions.

As for my choices - favorite album and song -
Album - Then - Sundown
Now - Songbook
Song - Then - Beautiful
Now - Always on the Bright side
