This is a joke we have me and John. He sometimes signs in as, Jean La Poule.

He's not too bad in french, must be his days in Montreal, in the late 60's, where he saw a young Gordon Lightfoot, at The New Penelope Coffee House. Expo 67, was Canada's Centennial, and Sir John was there ... Lucky guy, I would have given anything to see Lightfoot in those days... :) :rolleyes: :eek:

If I'm not mistaken, it costs about $15,000 to get the Star in place; besides, I would hate to see him next to someone like Donald Trump. Could you imagine how scary that would be!

Lightfoot has been nominated to the US Songwriters Hall of Fame multiple times, but he has never been voted in. I'm guessing, but I suspect that Oscar Brand is the one who keeps nominating him. Obviously, when it gets to the complete panel, there are too many people who always vote for some others rather than Lightfoot.

For many years, people who weren't from the US all fell into one category, so it was very difficult to vote in anyone from outside of the country. It isn't hard to come up with a list of fine songwriters from around the world. At the same time, there were multiple categories for Americans. I think, but am not sure, that this country distinction is either no longer true, or they allow more than one person per year from outside the US. That may make it either, but I am still discouraged. I don't even check every year as I used to.

the Canuck walk still isn't too watered down..there is only one cartoon related inductee (for better or worse) but i think if Big Bird makes the USA grade then Casey & Finnegan should be on the Canuck version

Gordon never left Canada for Vegas like Anne or Celine, except for studying his craft at that LA school and touring, so I perceive all is fine as is but love the support and enthusiasm:)

Where did the photos of Gord come from? When were they taken;was it when he was inducted into the Canadian Walk of fame? Who is the person in the camoflauge hat?

I know this is quite a few questions to answer.

You may note on his web site that the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame did better by Oscar than the US one did by Lightfoot! Kudos to the Canadians for being perceptive.

Oscar Brand is a folk legend in his own right. His contributions to music (and to Sesame Street) put him up there with the greats, yet he is known mostly by his peers (i.e., folk songwriters). He was a victim of the McCarthy era, and blacklisted. Spent many years in Canada, and met Lightfoot during that time. He is still active (in his 80s!), performing and hosting a long running radio show in NYC (which I attended when I was 3! My mother knew him from Brooklyn College).

I was lucky to meet him in person when I went down to Washington DC for the 2005 WFMA concerts.

Doors get star!

Yesterday, the Doors cemented its legendary rock status with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Doors' keyboardist Ray Manzarek, 68, and guitarist Robby Krieger, 61, showed up minus drummer John Densmore for the dedication of the walk's 2,325th star.

"Jim always used to say: 'The West is the best!'" Krieger said.

"It has been an incredible 40 years and now I'm back with Ray and we're still playing and you know, it may never end."

The band, whose dark sound helped to define the 1960s, is known for such hits as "Light My Fire" and "L.A. Woman."

"It is a great honour to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame...a street that Jim Morrison, Robby Krieger and I traipsed up and down, going into bars, asking if they'd hire a rock band," Densmore said in a statement read by Morrison's nephew, Dylan Graham.

Densmore, 62, said he was unable to make the ceremony because of an interview commitment to a local radio station.

The hard-living Morrison died at age 27 in 1971 and the Doors dissolved a few years later.

The surviving members have sparred legally over the of the group's name.

In 2005, a judge issued a permanent injunction barring Krieger and Manzarek from calling themselves the Doors and using any likeness of Morrison to promote a renewed version of the band.

Thank you Jesse-Joe for bringing back wonderful memories from years ago. The Doors were a group I followed as a teen. That album cover makes me waht to hear some of their music again. :)
