This is a live musical theatrical performance and tonight is the final show at the Princess of Wales Theatre here in Toronto.

Fortunately I was able to attend Friday night's performance and I give it a lot of stars.

Peter Grant, a Toronto born vocalist, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist took us back to the "Riverboat" days when he came on stage and did a knock out job on Gord's "Canadian Railroad Trilogy."

He played it on a 12 string Takamine guitar capoed on the fifth fret (the guitar was tuned down a full tone) in the "D" position so the key was "F" which is the same key in which it was recorded. Playing with the capo up that high on the fingerboard gave him the advantage of easily covering the high "E" string on the 10th fret producing that "essential" "Canadian Railroad Trilogy drone sound" that we so joyfully hear in Gord's studio recorded version.

When the "we are the navvies" part came a lead guitar player appeared and sounded out the "Terry Clements mandolin style sounds" which wound it down to a nice finish.

Big standing ovation for that one!
