The Fremantle Dockers (from Perth) were in their first Grand Final and were in a strong position late in the third quarter, but lost to the Hawthorn Hawks (from Melbourne). My beloved Melbourne Demons fell out of finals contention soon after the season started in March and finished 17th out of the 18 clubs.
