She is another statistic. So many artists and musicians have ended up the way Ms. McCready did. Thank goodness Gordon Lightfoot gave up the alcohol abuse so many years ago - so many songs we might have missed if some misfortune had overtaken him in "this crazy business...".
There are success stories - Steve Earle is a prime example of dipping a toe in the tar pit and coming back to tell about it - never to return.

I quit drinking seven years ago this coming May - the might-have-beens if I didn't stop horrify me.

I hope that if other talented and gifted artists out there are in turmoil over substance abuse and the pressures of the business, that they take the help offered and get straight. The losses would be too tragic.
