I guess we're all getting to that age when we suffer the loss of friends and family. I'm reminded of it with Cathy's loss, and also with my unexpected discovery of the loss of a distant friend...Harry Chambers from Liverpool, England.

Harry and I got connected several years back over the common love of Mossman Guitars. We exchanged many trans-Atlantic phone calls and talked of guitars and family (he was a grand dad and I a new father).

I am warmed though when I see the kindness that can be passed along. At kindergarten the other day my wife was pulled aside to hear how our middle daughter goes out of her way to sit with and play with special needs children so they won't have to eat of play alone (the other kids are scared of them).

I remember telling Harry about how my daughter had been premature and how scared we were for her life and health. He was a great friend, though we separated by an ocean and busy lives. Harry, and my daughter, remind me of how good we can be, and I wanted to let you all know that although we too are separated by geography...it means a lot to me to be able to come here and share in something so positive.

Merry Christmas to you all, and here's raising a glass to those friends present and departed who help fill our hearts.

Happy to hear from you Bill!
This is the time of year for reflection and your reminiscence of your long distance friend and what he meant to you is lovely to read.
I will be thinking of a long distance Lightfoot friend (Australian) who recently died too...He was a wonderful man and friend to me.
YOur daughter sounds like mine...she too was a preemie and she's currently studying to be an Early Childhood Educator and hoping to work with children with learning disabilities.
The positive aura around here is directly related to the music and man we all respect so much.
Merry Christmas to everyone and may 2012 bring you to a Lightfoot concert!
