Jerry Sandusky Discusses The Second Mile Program in 2007.wmv - YouTube

this story reminds me of the one years ago, almost implying there was a time when the country's national past time (specifically, hockey at Maple Leaf Gardens) was more sacred than innocence of youth(s)

we don't know the facts surrounding the extent of the awareness of the long time, sacred football coach, but if he was truly aware of the horrors going back a decade, i don't see why students are protesting and rioting, other than due to ignorance, and it being trendy ... seems like he was more or less 'harbouring a criminal' and his firing is only the first stage toward a just punishment

i suppose this Jerry guy will be on suicide watch... ironically looking for his own rope to dangle on.... once he gets over the denial phase ...sad, sad stuff

Penn State/football/Paterno ran the state - all of it-agencies/police/
The cult of personality rules.
Protect ones ass at all costs...it goes back to 1998/1999. It's shameful.

Perhaps if it was a member of their own family who was victimized, they might feel differently about it. Maybe some responsible "educator(s)" at Penn State should suggest that they ask themselves this question.

Was it always this bad? This winning at all costs, with huge amounts of money trumping EVERYTHING? Or was I just blind to it in the ignorance of my youth.

As I get older, I find it harder and harder to "shake it off" after hearing stories like this. Anyone else here feeling like a "misfit" in a society that seems to have forgotten about common decency?

I feel the same. Abusers are not new. The cover ups are not new either. We just hear about them more. I find the cover ups abhorent and as evil as the abuse itself. That Mr. Paterno would take it upon himself to decide he will retire at the end of the season speaks to the complete disconnect he has with what he allowed to continue. I am happy they fired his sorry ass. To put one man on such a pedestal is a disaster waiting to happen yet these sports coaches are glorified to the heavens. The students out rioting are clueless syncophants - they are more upset about a coach being fired than the 20 people who were abused. The disconnect is mind boggling.
All of the men involved have kids and grandkids yet carried on their lives in a web of lies all the while believing they were above it all. There is no excuse to ever excuse any of their behaviours. None. At. All. The cult era at Penn State is over.
