Today I took my daughters skating at the new Icehouse venue in central Melbourne. As we walked in, a man wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs top walked out. There was an ice hockey game in progress on the non-public rink. The Icehouse recently hosted the Ice Hockey World Cup. The public rink is named after the Bradbury family, who have pioneered and promoted ice sports in Australia over several generations. Steven Bradbury's speed skating gold medal at a recent Winter Olympics, assisted by the race leaders falling over each other just before the finish line, led to the expression "doing a Bradbury", which is widely used and understood across Australia.
