I subscribe to Tom's newsletter and got the notice that he turned 70 a few days ago. A great and under-appreciated folk artist.

I agree 100% with you on this one Bill.
I was drawn to what I felt was his very gentle style and I really like his voice.
He was another one of the many who Bernie Fiedler booked into the Riverboat during the sixties and I would watch for him in the flyer that I occasionally received from the Riverboat in those days.
He seemed to like Joni Mitchell's work a lot and she also was a very popular entertainer rising fast on the scene.
I remember one night in the Riverboat when Tom was there and I was seated at a table very close to the stage. It was magic.
He recorded a very beautiful version of Joni's "Urge For Goin'," one of my faves of her's, and on that particular night he had not yet performed it in his show and I knew that it was coming close to the end of the evening, so when the moment of opportune arrived I called it out and he looked over to his lead guitar player who in turn paused momentarily, but then gave the nod, as there's a few lead lickers in his version that really makes a fine package.
Talk about being in my element! I was just in my mid twenties then.
I see his name on Hugh's Room's calendar from time to time and that gives me another "concerts to attend" addition to my long list.
RJ.

Really got hooked when he did the PBS show in Boston. Have seen him twice in Dallas. Need to catch another show. Thought he would make a great subject for a documentary, but someone beat me to it -- there is one in production.
