Glen Campbell wrote this one, and sings it on his 'Wichita Lineman' Album.

Hank Williams coughed up a "yes".

all that's missing from this vocal is the coughing that should go with that voice

(in that 5th verse: the 'on my hive' line never made any sense to me)

Here's another song from Cohen that may require further review to see if it qualifies..........

"she's a hundred, but she's wearing something tight"

i could see this coming, you picked out the line with the strongest imagery

not sure of the meaning (aren't all of his about dying, or maybe that's just his vocal tone) but seems like him paralleling a bar winding down with a relationship or world or perhaps life doing the same

great old (i mean young) ELH footage, fezo

ok, this one has to qualify...and i put up this guy's rendition just cos i've stumbled on his whacky stuff a few times over the years and need to share it (he keeps getting shut down on youtube)...the Petty teeth are worth the wait if you can make it past 0:40

"His tears fell on the sidewalk as he stumbled in the street
A dozen faces stopped to stare but no one stopped to speak."

"Up a dark and dingy staircase the old man made his way
His ragged coat around him as upon his cot he lay
And he wondered how it happened that he ended up this way."

well, this longie one takes me back to grade school and a lot of memorization work!...it has to count as a 'song' cos it's got that word in the title

And after reading Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock you can go read The Love Song of J Edgar Hoover by Kinky Friedman. I haven't read it but what a title!

Apparently, our educational systems are quite different. I was simply taught that 'Life's a b**ch, and then you die'. Same thing....only less poetic.

Nice timing in here. After a couple of folks mention John Prine songs who just announces he's coming to the area but the man himself. February 20 in Red Bank. Excellent. Just scored two front row.

The lines from ´Tower of Song`that JJ quoted came to my mind at once,as I listened to the London Live Album on my car radio the other day ; but how about ... You can tell from the lines on her face, you can see that she´s been there...(Phil Collins Another Day in Paradise ).
Hope I remember the lyrics right, as I´m not the most ardent fan of P.C.

"Big Iron Horses" by Restless Heart (they're back together)

"Love Me" by Collin Raye (smash hit - super sweet)

"I'll Wait For You" by Joe Nichols

'Love Me' by Collin Raye is a very beautiful song, almost like a Lightfoot tune.
