Truly a loss. Musician, inventor, innovator, performer and legend. Every electric guitarist has Les to thank -immortalized by Gibson with his own model.
Nothing much sweeter than Les Paul & Mary Ford...
Sad indeed!

Farewell Les....you left a huge footprint!

I, for one, have owned a few of the Gibson Guitars bearing your name over the years.
Many have and still do!

I recently bought a casette of Les paul And Mary Ford.

I didn't really know until a few years ago that he was the same Les Paul who was famous for guitars also.

I always wondered, were Les & Mary husband and wife? I know it seems like a I know just about everything in music history but this is one of the few that I don't.

I know there's some who think he deserves a funeral of MJ proportions (on another website) but I doubt he'd be the typre for something that scale.

Hi, Bill. Heard about this and boy, sometimes it seems like they're dropping like flies. My dad LOVED Les Paul. Always cracked me up that people as varied as my dad and George Harrison (!) loved his music. (I remember back through the mists of time something that Harrison said about Les Paul that made him sound like a star-struck fan, really surprised me.)

I think it's also that consciously or subconsciously, it also warns us, that we're next; a real whiff of our own mortality. I remember when I was at the Riverboat Plaque ceremony from two months ago, I looked around and thought how old everyone looked, it hit me, "Gee, we're the SURVIVORS!" I loved the blog that said "This looks like my 40th high school reunion"! My 40th came up this year and I didn't go. Told a friend that and she said, tongue in cheek, "I couldn't believe when I went to MY 40th HOW OLD everybody looked! SherylKat

Wel,it's not really that they're "dropping like flies".

Some left because it was their time, others because they did way too many drugs and drinking in their hey-days.

In Les Paul's and Walter Cronkite's cases it was just their time.

In the sadder case of MJ,his life was taken from him but if what is said about his demands is true, then he had a hand in it as well.

Every few years it's like this unfortunately. 1998,2003 last year (Paul Newman) and now. :(
