Hey all -just thought I'd jot a 'little' here about the Dave Mason concert last night at the Wolf Den at the Mohegan Sun casino! It was great and I even met some Masonheads and they're just like us .
Last I saw Dave perform was about 15 years ago at Toad's Place in New Haven and found out last night that he had been back at Toad's a couple of years ago...June 6, 2006 to be exact! If I'd have known, I would have gone for sure.
A totally different performance (and Dave's physical appearance too) for he was solo/acoustic at Toad's and is now rocking with a full band. And back then he was as thin as a rail (think 1/2 Gordon), had his hair long (think maybe a little longer than Gordon's was this past tour) and wore a cowboy hat.
He performed all his greats from his early years with Traffic and then solo career. I could probably recite the setlist by memory somewhat in order but for a couple of his songs he introduced from his new CD, "26 Letters ~12 Notes"...and I was surprised and happy to see Willie Nelson listed on the insert among the 3 names under the heading "Electric and Acoustic Guitars" for the recording. No specifics on his contribution other than this.
Great crowd though I chose to stand the entire time rather than sit, and there found I was stuck between a rock and a hard place...literally a faux boulder and the side of a slot machine. Fine with me I had a good, full view of the stage and the sound was great. Dave and the band got the crowd going from the give and I prided myself for being able to recall most of the lyrics to every song  and especially my very favorite, "Shouldn't Have Took More Than You Gave" what a classic of course as is 40,000 Headman, Dear Mr. Fantasy, Feelin' Alright (uh-huh) :p, All Along the Watchtower, We Just Disagree...all the now classic Mason greats yippeeee.
I did manage to take a few pics - none of which came out because of some issues with my camera but I salvaged one to post here - sorry it's so bad!
Well glad I could share this here and egadz I saw his Ridgefield, CT concert for Dec. 3rd listed in the paper while staying with a friend out that way last weekend...back home I checked his other dates online for Dec. to see if he may be somewhere closer to me. Good thing I thought to look back to his Nov. calendar and with just a couple days to spare. If anyone has a chance to catch this tour - you'll love it and his new CD too is great :).
