Thank you, Jesse Joe! It's nice to be here. I've been reading along the discussion board for months now and decided to register. I was excited to see the user name I chose was available, since my name is, indeed, Linda.
I'm also proud to be a lighthead, too! as I've been a fan for many, many years. What a wonderful forum I've found to celebrate a lifetime of music indeed.
Thank you for the welcome:)

Thanks Charlene and everyone else. It's a real pleasure to be here. I've been a fan of Gordon's music for over 30 years. I remember quite well when I was very young and Sundown came out. It was right around then, or a little before, that I first became aware of his music. I've been a fan ever since.
Few artists are as widely credited and acclaimed as he is. Certainly the combination of his guitar playing, lyrics and vocals through the years are a testament to that! It's nice to have found a place where fans can come together to continue to celebrate a lifetime's worth of music, for sure. As I said, I've been following some of the discussions for quite some time now and I'm happy to be here and looking forward to getting to know everyone.
I'm also a big Dan Fogelberg fan too for as many years. It was both Gordon and Dan's music that eventually led me to guitar lessons...for five years. I was able to play decent fingerpicking of a collection of both individual's songs. No doubt the lessons left me with a much deeper appreciate for the fine art of musicianship.
I live in southeast Michigan, so if anyone's ever in the area let me know. Also, I happen to pass right by the Mariner's Church of Detroit (aka Maritime Sailor's Cathedral) every morning on my way to work....they should be getting ready for the October service marking the symbolic closing of the shipping season. I have a view of the freighters going up and down the Detroit River during the day and every now and then the Arthur M. Anderson passes by....of course we know the relevance of this ship as it relates to the Edmund Fitzgerald. They are a sight to see.
So that's a little about me. Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

Hi Linda,
I'm originally from Northwest Ohio myself, Bowling Green to be precise, and I still have family there. So I could tell you when I'm in the area visiting. I'm also a fingerpicker myself, with thanks to GL of course for inspiring me as he inspired you. I play GL songs and Dan Fogelberg songs among others.
It's good to have here. I'm actually a recent arrival myself. BillW and Jesse Joe "ganged up on me" after seeing my YouTube videos and here I am. I hope you have a great time here.

Welcome, Oh, Linda! - to a very a special, very friendly, quiet-spoken, thoughtful and kind community of a diversity of people who share the appreciation of Gordon Lightfoot's music. I like your name, as one of apparently 2 songs of GL's that have some of his early fascination and training in Jazz from Westlake College of Music, where it was said that his learning with initialy piano, jazz theory, in addition to classical music theory was highly benefical to a prospectiove singer-songwriter, as confirmed by several resident members who are singer-songwriters ! Oh Linda! and 'Make Way For the Lady' on Dream Street Rose seem to be Gl's primary forays into his old fascination with a little Jazz ! Good to have you !
As you have played allready, we would welcome you back into the game thread Lyrics Fan(atics) again to round out the number of players if you like - always welcome in the good mental-exercise for the lyrics buff of Gords !
Look Forward to hearing favourite songs, albums, why, etc., if you are given to talking of such preferences ! Nice to have you in any Event. I was unsure when you played in the Lyrics game of you were make or female , as the game "host" - (slave!) - and did not want to verbally blunder - now I know !
You've picked a fine group of cerebral and kind, thoughtful people to share music taste and some small talk with !
"geo"- Steve , Geo, Steve, G-Man, or geodeticman are all fine to call me & hey you ! write 6 new clues - yo! lol:biggrin::clap:

Thank you geo Steve! As far as favorites go, the two that top the list for me are If You Could Read My Mind and Too Late For Prayin'. For some reason I do tend to gravitate to the less famous songs that aren't as widely known. I guess it's because they strike a certain "chord" so to speak--a combination of words, vocals and music--that just come together and and hit me! Some examples include Bells of the Evening (can't get through this one without a lump in my throat), If Children Had Wings, Sit Down Young Stranger, and of course Too Late for Prayin. There are many others of course as there's certainly a vast library to pick from. Aren't we all lucky:)
Now a short story from my 1988 concert......
Lucky for me I'm heading off to Kalamazoo next Saturday to see Gordon in concert. I'm very excited as It's been 20 years since I have done so. I recall the 1988 concert I attended very well indeed. Gordon was not happy with the sound and kept stopping mid-stream for the first 4 or 5 songs in a row and yelling at soundman "Bob." At first it was a tweak here, a tweak there. But with each song he became more and more upset and actually stopped the band, in the middle of each of the first few songs, repeatedly. Of course those of us in attendance thought he sounded great and he appeared in very fine form. But it just wasn't enough for Gordon. I must say he was very, very upset. Yelling in fact.
I'd never seen anything quite like it at the time and haven't since. I was sitting in the lawn section with my friend and those nearby to us looked around and wondered out loud if the entire concert was going to be like this. Eventually he let it go and pressed on. To our delight, he sounded great and delivered an outstanding performance in the end, despite the rough start. That all said, I'm anxious to see the show a week from now. I'll report back and let everyone know how it was.
I'm just happy that at this point in his career he's able to continue touring to appreciative fans like all of us. And that his music is as relevant today as it was 30-40 years ago. I have no doubt that generations of people will come to learn of this very special man known as Gordon Lightfoot and appreciate his contribution to music and the legend that he is. Without a doubt, he is every bit a legend indeed.
P.S. Glad you like the name I picked out. My real name is Linda, but that was already taken, so I borrowed the song title "Oh, Linda." Otherwise, "Spin, Spin" was going to be my #2 selection had Oh Linda already been taken:)
