World record igloo
Published Saturday April 19th, 2008
A giant igloo built by the Northwestern Branch of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of N.B. has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. The ice igloo, which was built for the association’s second annual Igloo Building Competition in Grand Falls in February, measured 7.9 metres in diameter and 4.2 metres high. The effort took 70 volunteers, 2,000 blocks of ice and 50 hours to build. The igloo was so strong that it stood intact for 59 days until a warm stretch of weather brought it down on April 8.
