John Mellencamp Elected to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced today that John has been elected for induction into the Rock Hall as part of the 2008 class of enshrinees. John will be honored at the induction ceremony on March 10, 2008 in New York City.

Upon being told of his election John noted: "I'm very honored and pleased to be recognized this way, especially among people whom I greatly admire."

Also selected for induction in the 2008 class are Madonna, The Ventures, Leonard Cohen and The Dave Clark Five. To be eligible, artists must have issued a first single or album at least 25 years before nomination. A panel of 600 industry figures selected the five acts to be inducted at the annual ceremony, to be held March 10 in New York.

"The 2008 inductees are trailblazers - all unique and influential in their genres," Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation President and CEO Joel Peresman said in a statement. "From poetry to pop, these five acts demonstrate the rich diversity of rock and roll itself."

I always knew he'd be inducted. Except for the embarrasing compromise of changing his name to John "Cougar",Mellencamp has always remained true to himself and did it in his style.
In the 1980's,you couldnt have asked for a more down to earth new American artist then he is. He didn't sell out to the ridiculous quirks that made up that decade's fashions, music or over all ideals that $$$ is more important than one's own self.

Right on John!

And 'Right On' Borderstone!

Im sure you know that it was his record company that made him change his name. They said then he would not sell records with a name like Mellencamp.

So I guess him being very young at the time, he did what he had to do.

Imagine that {Johnny Cougar} :)
