Anne Murray to play Moncton
Next year looking good for Coliseum as concert hub
Times & Transcript Staff Published Tuesday December 4th, 2007
Legendary Maritime songstress and multi-time Grammy and Juno award winner Anne Murray is coming back to Moncton -- one last time.
She is the latest name on what is becoming a fairly lengthy list of performers scheduled to perform at the Moncton Coliseum in the first few months of 2008.
Murray will perform at the Coliseum on Tuesday, April 15, one day before legendary country singer George Jones will perform at the venue.
Murray's concert was announced yesterday afternoon by Gillett Entertainment Group out of Montreal. Her tour, dubbed "Coast to Coast -- One Last Time" will see the 62-year-old singer start her tour here in Moncton and finish it three weeks later in Victoria, B.C.
According to Murray, it will be her final tour. She is touring in support of her latest album Friends & Duets, a compilation of her hits performed with everyone from Jann Arden to Shania Twain.
Michael Kaeshammer will open the show. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, Dec. 8, at 9 a.m.
In other concert news, a few weeks after the Times & Transcript broke the news that legendary country singer George Jones would be returning to the Hub City next April, the concert date now appears on the Moncton Coliseum's website.
The website says Jones, known for hits like "The Race Is On," "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and "She Thinks I Still Care," will perform at the Coliseum on Wednesday, April 16.
Jones' own website listed that date along with three other Maritime dates in Halifax, Sydney and Fredericton last month, but a representative from the Moncton Coliseum would not confirm or deny the show at the time.
Tickets to the show are on sale now for $61, taxes and handling included.
The singer, who turned 76 in September, last performed in Moncton on Oct. 30, 2005.
So far, 2008 is looking like a solid year for music at the Moncton Coliseum.
Metal king Ozzy Osbourne kicks off the year on Jan. 24. Tickets to the show went on sale this past Saturday and sold out in mere hours.
On the opposite end of the musical scale, pop crooner Michael Bublé will perform at the Coliseum on Feb. 2. That show is also sold out.
Blue Rodeo, joined by another Canadian band, Cuff The Duke, will play the venue on Feb. 21.
Tickets to that show are still available. Anne Murray with Michael Kaeshammer will perform on Tuesday, April 15, and George Jones will perform on Wednesday, April 16.
n Tickets to Anne Murray's concert range in price from $47 to $61 plus taxes and service charges, and they go on sale this Saturday, Dec. 8. Tickets to George Jones' show are $61, and tickets to Blue Rodeo's show are $46. Tickets to both shows are available now at the Coliseum box office, online at www.tickets.moncton.ca (http://www.tickets.moncton.ca) and by phone at 857-4100.
