No,not the TV show but none other than Marlo "Ann Marie" Thomas!

I guess it shouldn't be "that" suprising, given how long ago the series was. It's quitrte the coincidence because just the other night I got to re-watch her 1974 special,"Free To Be You and Me". (Love that title song by The New Seekers!)

I saw That Girl" in reruns as a kid & teen and thought she was a pretty cool girl. :) I thought "Donald" was ...wel,a duck! (Looked like.) ;)

I most recently saw her on one of the very few episodes of Friends I've ever watched as the mom of one of the characters.

Happy 70th Marlo!!

(and also a happy birthday to Goldie Hawn @ 62!) ;)

WOW...70!!!

Today, I received a Christmas letter/greeting/gift appeal from St. Jude Children's Hospital...'signed' by Marlo. I've always admired her work (and her dad's) with St. Jude and I do try to give at least once a year. And I loved watching That Girl! She was great!!

Interestingly, there's a letter to the editor in today's New York Times about the influence of That Girl:

'THAT GIRL'; Ann Marie, Pioneer

To the Editor:

Re ''When Age Wasn't Wasted on the Old'' [Aug. 13]:

In celebrating the DVD of ''That Girl'' starring Marlo Thomas, Claire Dederer makes an interesting and original point about the changing television portrayal of age. But given my age, I think she misses the point when she plays down this series as pioneering TV feminism. Where else was there a young woman who lived on her own and wasn't obsessed with getting married? Trust me, nowhere.

Of course, if Ms. Thomas had won out over network executives completely, ''That Girl'' would have been ''That Woman'' with different male friends, not just one very proper boyfriend who turns into a fiancé.

She sure looks good for nearly 70!! Just saw a commercial for St. Judes with her on it. Phil hasn't aged as well. That was a pairing that I thought very surprising.

I recall SNL doing a skit about when they got married.

Phil does a show from his and marlo's bedroom and Phil does his usual sauntering around while talking, only it's in the bed! Along with people asking highly personal questions ro dumb ones like "Is he sexier than Ted Bessell?" (Donald on That Girl).

Very funny then but I'm sure today, something like that could happen on Springer.

And it's lasted - they've been married since 1980. Phil's only 2 years older than Marlo.
