I'm starting this topic to mark (what I almost can't believe) is the 10th anniversary of first logging onto the internet and truly using a PC. Also in light of Gord himself being on the net's "You Tube" live!

I had used A PC somewhat in high school around 1984/85 but no one really took them 100% seriously then. We mostly played games with sorry graphics and printed things. I wasn't impressed.

This week in Sept. of 1997,I logged on at a local community college I was attending then and was taking a computer course (which I discovered that except for the net,I had no real interest).

First place I went? No surprise here,it was Billboard Online to see if they had a site first of all and to see what was #1 on the charts.
"Honey" by Mariah Carey (again...surprise-surprise!:D)!

I'd love to hear about your fisrt PC and internet outings too. :) Been the "B",bye-bye!

First time I ventured onto the Internet was shortly after I got myself an E-mail address, and even then I had to be pulled kicking & screaming into the 21st century. I got brave one day after I had checked my mail, and found a lot of interesting things going on there. Then one day out of the blue, I'm just surfing around on Wikipedia & find the piece on Gordon, and at the bottom of the article was the Corfid website, and here I am. I still want to drop kick this freaking machine out the door ever so often, but I don't let it get me so frustrated that I ever want to leave it. Hey, I'm having to much fun to do that!

I've been working with computers since 1986. My first home pc was spring of 1997. So this is my 21st or my 10th anniversary, depending on how you look at it. :)

Well, B my first NET experience was back in '94 when our Marketing class had to research and develop a mock marketing strategy for Coca-Cola. Although I had used computers since '85, this new technology was very exciting for me. I spent a lot of time at the library that year!!! By the way, do you prefer Coke or Pepsi?

Whoa Nelly B ! IT (or Information Technology) has been paying my bills since May of 1978. PCs first appeared on the desks of what used to be called secretaries (?) quite a few years later. I finally bought one for home use in the early 90s. They're nice but can be such a real time waster. I found corfid in early 2001.

Bill :)

A list of things that PCs let you / make you do for yourself at work would take pages. All those secretaries eventually were let go, LOL.

1979. I had a class on database searching through Syracuse University. They had two strapping undergrads haul in the "portable" computer and hoist it up on a sturdy desk, wire it up, and we then dialed up UC Berkley using an acoustic coupler and modem to search through their databases using ftp (file transfer protocol.) Man, do I feel like I went to school with Fred Flintstone!

That's funny Annie!! LOL! (Yabba Dabba Dooo, from me too! ) Interesting stories but wow,Bill 1978? I had only dicovered the game "pong" just a few monthds before!

Well Rose, how do i remember these things? There's no answer to give really except to say, that's just how my mind works. If i had the time (and if Florian wouldn't have a fit "ha-ha")I could type out my whole life story here in almost absolute detail.

It's a great "gift" to have at important times but sometimes it's kind of annoying having all that info. up there, especially songs that don't leave...ever!

Since everyone's saying so,I found this site in Dec. 2002 because I wanted to see(but was quite sure,)there couldn't be a Gordon lightfoot website. ;) i signed up in Feb. '03 after peeping in for a while. Good thing I didn't check before 1999!

Right now, I'm learning how to use a laptop computer, and so far it's not as hard to use as I had once feared it might be. One of the things that I like about it is the touchpad style mouse. So I know for certain that I'll be getting one of my own by the first of the year.

Just don't keep it on your lap for real. Let's just say for a guy, that's the worst place to have it. ;)

Yeah, I know what you mean. Those little boogers can put out some serious heat. Still, since I don't have much of a lap anyway:), I think I can safely say that it's going to be left on the computer desk at home. I've also been learning to play mah johng on the laptop as well, and it seems to be easier to play than I thought it would be. I'm now having my nephew bugging me to learn how to play chess as well. But for now it's got to be one little baby step at a time:).
