Const. Neil Adey talks to skaters Bob Burke, left, and Rae Patterson and tries to convince them to come off the ice at Lily Lake because of the mild temperatures Thursday when the thermometer hit 8 degrees Celsius. The two skaters felt the posted sign warning of thin ice was meant for large crowds and that the ice was safe for the two of them to skate on. The officers were responding to a call about skaters on the ice. The two skaters left the ice shortly afterwards on their own. The city is enjoying its mildest winter in nearly 50 years.

Do you have any snow over your way, Jessie? We had a few inches last week, but it all melted this week. I think this is my very first snowless January, and it was definitely my first snowless Christmas.

No snow at all Cathy. It's 12 C, that's around 55 F.

same here in Toronto..no snow/mild temps 50+ ..there's no skating on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa...not even a centimetre of ice!
Some big ski resorts up at Georgian Bay have closed completely-they can't even blow snow...
and I don't care if it ever snows or gets any colder..I like this kind of winter altho it's not good for nature/trees/plants/wildlife/insects etc.

Not to worry - nature will adapt. And then in a few hundred years or so we'll have another ice age. The wheel keeps turning, stick around long enough and you'll see everything, LOL.

Hey Charlene, do you know if people are able to skate in front of that magnificent City Hall,{ Nathan Phillips Square} even if the whether is mild? Thought I heard something on it the other night on CTV.

They showed The Rideau Canal in Ottawa, saying last year at this time, people were skating on it, but this year only water.

But in Toronto, they had some sort of hook up, to keep the skating rink frozen? :)

The other day the Zamboni cleared the surface and all it picked up was water at Nathan Phillips Square in front of city hall...i dont' know if they have a freezer system like in ice rinks or not...probably not....i think it's cheaper to let nature do the work of making ice!

Those skyline pics are pretty old-lots of newer bldgs. and condos now...Here's a pic I took this summer from out on the lake. You can see the bldgs. that have gone up to the left of the CN Tower...

Right on Char, beautiful city indeed. From your pic the Sky Dome, is almost invisible. Gord's Town!! lol :D

Thanks Char, but I thought I heard something mention on TV about the ice, on the skating rink... Maybe not?

Well, so much for having no snow. We got 8 inches yesterday, with ice on top of it.
