Howdy All,

Just got home from The Coffee Gallery in Alta Dena, CA after seeing Barry McGuire and Terry Talbot's program ["Trippin' Through the 60's]

Should Barry and Terry come thru your town, getcher tix quick. The most moving concert experience for me since seeing Gord's first shows after his massive illness.

While the New Christy Minstrels are touring again [w/ original members such as Barry] seeing the duo is a most unique experience. Not sure which was more present: tears of laughter or tears of remembers.

A highlight of the evening was Denny Brooks presence in the audience.
As both an alumni of Mason Proffit [Terry Talbot's band] and John Denver's band, it was excellent to spend good time with him. Denny and my cousin, Don Preston, are friends, so we shared some fine remembers.

Terry told stories of touring with John as opener for Mason Proffit then switching roles as his popularity skyrocketed. At that time, it was only John and his guitar. An especially fond remember for Terry was singing a song one show along with John - both on the same mic. A foto of the two came up on eBay but somebody else beat Terry to it.

Lotsa stories tonight about lotsa storied folks in Topanga and passing the guitar w/ the likes of Stephen Stills, David Crosby, and Graham Nash at Cass Elliott's in the Canyon.

But, speaking of the Denny Brooks hightlight, as Barry and Terry sang *For Baby* I watched Denny. Lost and Present in Reverie and Joy. The look on his face with eyes closed - weaving slightly to the music - will be a vision not soon forgotten.

More to tell, but bed time for this Geezer . . .

Adios for now,

Rez

That sounds like a good show. I saw Barry on one of those PBS specials either last year or 2005.

Quite a difference in appearance, from the 1965 picture in my #1 Hits book.

Yeah . . . quite a difference in Barry's pate.

T'was a Moment-o-Mirth as he told of singing the lead in *Hair* on Broadway. His Walrustache is nonetheless as robust as his voice and Spirit.

A very treasured episode of The Puppet Factory from '95 is Barry's visit. I was suitably jazzed to be singin' a duet w/ Barry on our Theme Song.

Terry, on the proverbial other hand, is embarassingly fit. He told of a time Mason Proffit opened for Janis Joplin.

The group had to go to another gig, and couldn't stay for Janis' show. Like a little girl, she said: You're not gonna stay and hear me sing?

As the band was ready to hit the highway, she said:
Well, next time - OK?

. . . there was no next time.

Seek out Mason Proffit's *Two Hangmen*
