Today, just under a mile from where I work here in Phoenix a horrible tragedy took place at about 12:45pm.
I was outside the building showing a vendor the way to the front office, when we heard a loud boom like sound. Then we heard a man's voice from down the street say several times,"Oh My God"! As if he'd seen someone get shot.
when we arrived outside of the office,to the south-east,we could see deep black smoke.
What had happened was that two local news helicopters, each carrying the pilot and cameraman collided in mid-air and into a local city park. The two and other news choppers had been covering a police/criminal street chase, the criminal had stolen a small fuel truck of some kind.
The chopper pilots all communicate with each-other while in the air, some kind of mis-calculation or mis-communication caused the helicopters of Independent KTVK Channel 3 and ABC 15 to collide.
All four men perished, all had families and all had been in the news from about a decade to 20 plus years. It is still being covered all over Tv as I type here in the apartment complex office.
On a true and ironic note, just a few hours earlier,I had by chance met up with the local weatherman from Channel 3 who's first name is Terry. He was getting into the news-van and I told him I recognized him. A very strange co-incidence.
May those men rest in peace and may their families find the strength and courage day by day, untuil their tears all dry.
