The folk fest has had it's ups and downs over the years but this year...

The Allman Brothers? Linda Rondstadt? I like their music..

The only familiar name in folk music I see is Emmylou Harris. Not that familiar names are a requirement, but I would expect the top-listed performers be folk musicians.

I doubt that The Allman Bros. have departed from their Southern Rock and Rondstadt...who is actually not performing at the fort, but at the opener at the Tennis Hall of Fame, sure ok.

New sponsor since (last year?) is Dunkin Dounuts.
Does anyone know what's happened? Surely something to do with the sponsor?

I attended the 1st two years of Ben & Jerry's Newport Folk Festival, and the presentation was phenomenal..reminiscent of the grand old days. Ben & Jerry opened the festival and really set the tone for these years.

The first year, many familiar names but one unfamiliar to me Barry, aka Luka Bloom has been one of my favorites ever since. After his set, my friend and I ran right over to the tent and bought 'Riverside'.

Joan Baez, Sweet Honey on the Rock, the Indigo Girls, Leon Redbone, etc., it was great. The next year I went back and just had to see Luka perform and the line up of performers were just as great as the year before.

The JVC Jazz Fest this year has one of the best lineups I've ever seen...Reeves, Brubeck, Marsalis, B.B. King, Al Green, etc.

JVC has been a great sponsor all along but this is definitly the year of Jazz. Wish I could be there!
