Watchman,
That's pretty good. Thanks for the chuckles. Lord knows I have probably held most of those positions at one time or another.

This sounds generally correct, but you forgot to include the wondering off topic... besides, we all know we should have started by lighting a candle and be done with it!!!!!
but what kind of candle should we light????

May I suggest this picture which is a bit too large to display here

this one is smaller though

How many men does it take to change a streetlamp bulb?
"I found out recently when this bright yellow van drew up opposite and I happened to have the DV cam ready. The interesting thing to watch is where he tries to put the lamp back together and the catch breaks off or something, so he holds it in place with a roll of sticky tape. Perhaps a frequent occurence, but I wonder how long it will remain adhesive in the rain?"
But.. you missed the point Al
Confucious had the answer years ago:
the more the merrier for after all:-
"many hands make light work"

but back to the topic now... I counted 176 according to Watchman's post. so is that the answer???? An exceedingly good question Peter to which I can only retort as folows:-
According to the authoritative Wiki at:-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker's_Guide_to_the_Galaxy
Where I read read:-
the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. When the answer was revealed as 42, they were
forced to build a more powerful computer to work out what the Ultimate Question actually was, but their plans never come to fruition. (Later on, referencing this, Adams would create a puzzle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/42_Puzzle) which
could be approached in multiple ways, all yielding the answer 42.)
on that page I then read:-
"Douglas Adams who wrote The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
created a puzzle whose question was unknown, but whose answer is already known to be 42

That's 177 people. 178 if you include the boy who does the math...
Peter Bro10
11-29-2006, 10:38 PM
the boy doing the math is merely an observer of the excercise and not participant. However, if the observer at any point interacts with the other participants, well..... sorry, I've gone too deep again. ouch!
Analogies....
Most of the population listens to generic music.
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/2219/genericmusicon8.jpg
I, like many others fell in love with music during the psychedelic era in the 60's.

We 'Lightheads' come in all shapes and sizes, some brighter than others, but all contrubuting "illuminating" tales and observations.

When Gord and the boys finish thier encore, we all give him a standing ovation!
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/9428/standingovationyi4.jpg
Let]s all pray that Gord's career continues to be long and colourful!!!
http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/2214/lightfootco8.jpg
Thanks also to Thomas Edison, his parents & entire family tree without who there would be no lightbulbs to change!
Ditto to Charles Townes, father of the Laser. Without his contribution, we might still be listening to Gord on vinyl!
{how about threads on the mumber of electronic engeneers required to service lasers and LED's?}
'Lightheartedly' yours,
Yuri

You are truly a bright spark Yuri, BUT you omitted to identify which bulb shape you are or whether any of them resembles Char.
And we all know who "sparkie" is!!

Thanks John,
Six months ago I was a high voltage quartz halogen/mercury vapour spotlight. My world was so bright.
After my illness last April, I feel like a match in a dark room, which is slowly consuming itself.
'Shocking', but true. Still fighting to regain that spark....

ColoradoSue,
Please explain to this "dull bulb" what you meant by "one of Gordy's guys loved the Scorpio one"
Are you refering to one of Gord's band members?, or someone else?
Never heard of any of Gord's people lurking this site.

Watchman - your thread opener was hilarious ! Thanks I needed the laugh....
, geo Steve
p.s. I'd add some to the list to admonish others sanctimoniously of the toxic nature of the bulb breaking if it is in fact a fluorescent bulb. The phosphorus is both inhaled as a toxic powder, and absorbed by osmosis through the skin as a systemic toxin.
Oh - and three to criticize the the person who posted on toxicity;
4 to rail to his/her defence and slam the criticizer, and the moderator to cool things down;
2 for John and I to debate wether the bulb portion of a std. lightbulb is in fact an oblate speroid, or a sphere, :)
one Boulder Colorado denizen to argue the answer is zero - Boulderites screw-in hot-tubs not light bulbs;
2 physics majors to argue wether a light particle photon has zero mass at rest or at the constant "C" speed; 3 attorneys to determine who is culpable if the whole thing blows up legally,
and one practical person to sweep up the glass shards of the bulb that went bad; or don a filter mask and rubber gloves if a fluorescent bulb.
This one practical private industry person would become 3 if a municipal job; 6 if a County Government, 12 if a State job, 24 if a Federal job, and 48 plus ambassadors and extradition lawyers if the bulb was over an international boundary;
to determine if over a such a boundary 6 land surveyors to determine this to +/- 3 feet, 3 geodetic surveyors, 2 cartographers, and a photogrammetrist to determine this within +/- 5mm and 3ppm.. Oh - and one idiot to hold up the bulb over their head while standing under high-power lines while their internal organs cook.
plus - 2 EE's to argue that LED's will take over virtually all incandescent or fluorescent lightbulbs !
-all in fun; hope I offended no one :)

But meanwhile GG try to refrain from sticking your fingers in the open socket , unless you are sure thst the light switch is off. How do you know if it is off?
1 If you put your finger in the socket and feel a strong tingle it is not off.
2 if you are in the US and the sytem is not a pair of two-way switches the main on/off switch's lever will be down
3 if on the other hand you are in the UK and I, believe, Australia the lever will be up (*** see below)
Don't ask me why but I do not think it has anything to do with whether the water drains out of a sink in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction... oh yus
from a blog on a scientific experiment made during a visit to Quito Ecuador on the equator at:-
http://jasonpearce.com/blog/2005/12/21/how-water-drains-on-the-equator/-
"Draining water from a sink worked as expected. In the northern hemisphere, the water circled counter-clockwize. In the southern hemisphere, it circled clockwize. And right on the equater, the water drained straight down. The impressive part was the difference in draining methods was apparent in less than 10 feet on either side of the equator."
Obviously no (Keith) Urban Legend there!!
*** from a wiki at:-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_switch
"The direction which represents "on" also varies by country. In the United States it is universal for the "on" position of a toggle switch to be "up", whereas in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand it is "down.""
John the "wise" not "wize" wotever neckst? No dowt sumebuddy will insist that there are metals or elements named "cadmium", "sodium" "uranium" and no it can't be write "aluminum"!!!

As far as I know good old Al (The Watchman) went into law enforcement and moved south. I haven't heard from him in awhile. I think he also was using his K-9 skills on the job.
Good one about Viole(n)t!!! Who can ever forget the wonderful entertainment when she(?) and Al (The Watchman) would go toe-to-toe. Really funny stuff.
I won't mention your involvement in those fine days since you were moved to the witness protection program - just kidding - good to hear from you.
When I first saw the post I thought "OMG - he's back!" After all these years I don't know if we could stand the excitement - and then I saw the date. Oh well !

Yes I think he lives in North Carolina now. (We're friends on Facebook). I remember you told me about him and the Blue Horse going at it. She used to go toe to toe with me before I got expelled, (I wasn't around when all that went down) then I guess Watchman took my place lol. I wonder if those threads were deleted or not... :confused:
