I just came from CNN (online) and read that after 50 years in TV and 35 years (next year) on The Price Is Right,Bob Barker is stepping down next June! :(
Bob stated that he's been thinking of leaving for nealry a decade but was "having too much fun" to leave. TPIR debuted in 1972 and I rememebr seeing a show back then when I was 4 and still at home in the day with my family.
I didn't quite understand it all but I knew I liked the colorful sets and that funny "elevator" music the presented prizes with! (Y'know, the one played oin the flute?) :D Never have forgotten that tune.
When older,I'd get excited for the winners and be just as bummed out as the people who lost! I laughed hystericaly when those big Somoan women would pick him up off the ground! LOL!! :D I recall,I really loved "The Race Game" too.
The show has seen any # of Barker's Beauties (I especially recall Holly & Janice!) and has had 3 announcers shout out,"Come on down"! Two notably being the late Johnny Olson and Rod Roddy (Rod also was the announcer on the weekly sitcom "SOAP". )
I knew this day was coming sometime so,I'll say it now....DON'T GO BOB!!!! :( :(
Anyways,it's quite a TV run and Bob is a great part of TV history and what folks in the entertainment field call,"A national treasure".
Here's to you Bob Barker!
I'll see you all next time...oh,and have your pets spayed or neutreled! :D
