Hi...for what it's worth I'll add my two cents in here...or even a "Ring Neck Loonie" for that matter.
Gee, starting a conversation making a statment about ones perceived lack of identity is bound to bring out some strong feelings. Well, it certainly did for Char (who has witnessed enough Leaf games to have developed a strong identity in at least one regard!) and it did for me, also.
I couldn't possibly explain Canada's identity to someone who can't see/feel it....though voting for a "right wing" government is hardly an expression of an identity by itself. No, I will step aside here and ask a gentleman by the name of Gordon Lightfoot to help folks understand Canada's identity. How ironic that the fellow who posted that original observation takes the name of "Restless" which is most certainly a Canada defining piece of music. Gord's music is infused with Canadian(isms) and always has been. A trip through his albums is akin to a trip across Canada....but as I said that is only my two cents worth.
Now, if only the Torontonians wouldn't be so jealous of our lifestyle here on the West Coast....

Gee Rich, I think that is worth way more than 2 cents!
Wise words indeed, thanks.

I've not only witnessed many Leafs games but named my son after Darryl Sittler-great Leafs captain!

however.....
I know how beautiful it is out west, never been, but hope to one day. Have family in Prince George and Vancouver Island.
When I went to Sarasota in February to visit my sister, her family and my cousin who live there (and who comprise my whole family other than my mum who lives here) Rick Haynes asked why I wasn't living down there like them.
My quick and easy reply was "because Gord lives in Toronto."
lol
;)
Char
altho those Sarasota beaches are very tempting!!!

I have to reply here, for naming your son after Darryl Sittler. I have a neighbour friend down here, who is just crazy about Darryl Sittler. You would not beleive it. It's like me for Gord. He also named his son Darryl. His license plate is SITTLER. Big Maple Leafs Fan. I have no kids myself, but when my brother and his wife had there first son, I jokingly ask them to name him Gordon, which they did. In 1976, it was the CB craze, and my handle of course was LIGHTFOOT XM- 62-249. Which today is part of my email addresse. My neighbours handle, you guess it was SITTLER. :D

My brothers wife was pregnant with her first in 1987, while we attended the Gordon Lightfoot concert in Halifax, NS. October 24, 1987. That was one of the reasons, why I asked them to name there son Gordon. JJ. :)
