Singer/songwriter Terry Tufts will sing music from his new CD, ‘The Better Fight.’
Those of you who have seen him in a GL tribute concert will know how talented this man is.
Both Ron Jones and I were in touch with him a while ago regarding a brilliant rare unreleased GL song "Face Of A Thousand People" which I recall he rendered at one recent concert,
Alerted by google only this morning I read an article in an on line Parsippany (New Jersey) newspaper written to promote an upcoming concert
"Tufts will perform solo at the Minstrel Coffeehouse in Morris Township May 26"
Curses because that is today already in fact.
Unfortunately we are already committed to going to a Harry Chapin family concert in the other direction this evening but you might like to read the article which is at:-
http://www.dailyrecord.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060526/ENT01/605260305/1083/ENT
"He listened to Homer & Jethro, Joan Baez, Ian & Sylvia, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Paxton, Peter, Paul & Mary, the New Christy Minstrels and The Smothers Brothers"
You can also check out this evening's venue at:-
http://www.folkproject.org/fp_minstrel.html
I noted that Kate Campbell is there on November 10th;she does a mean version of Gord's "immigration" song (The House You live In)
Her version is on her CD "Wandering Strange at:-

Gord's song is track 1
Scroll down and click on the appropriate "listen" link
to hear the first 30 seconds of it... sweet

I am rather surprised that nobody has yet responded to this.I had taught that at least the moderator person would have had something to say about Terry or that somebody would express pleasure at hearing another version of the "Immigrant" song.
Whatever we went to a most enjoyable concert at North Branch New Jersey at:-
The Raritan Valley Community College
which is near to the NJ city of Bridgewater in the NJ county of Somerset.
Sharp eyed Brits should have noticed that for once the Americans foresook their "program" of creating a more "colorful" version of the English language whereby they mispell words by omitting letters willy-nilly, this time they actually stuck in an extra "e", (the original is Bridgwater in the county of Somerset in England)

Harry Chapin: A Celebration in Song
The Chapin Family

Friday, May 26, 2006 at 8PM
Tickets: $33 & $38
In an evening to remember, the famous musical Chapin Family comes together to celebrate and bring alive the music of the late Harry Chapin (http://harrychapinmusic.com/chapin_site2/home/chapinhp_frm.html). Songs like Taxi, Cats In The Cradle, Mr. Tanner, and Circle are sung by those who know them best- Harry’s original band and his amazing family. An evening full of story, emotion, humor, and transcendent music, this is a concert to fill your ear and stir your heart. Starring brothers Tom (http://members.aol.com/chapinfo/tc/) and Steve Chapin, Harry’s daughter Jen Chapin (http://www.jenchapin.com/), Big John Wallace, Harry’s longtime bass man and sidekick and Tom’s singing daughters Abigail and Lily Chapin, and Jessica Craven.

But we got rather more than that listing.Tom's wife's three daughters flew in from LA as did a third brother the Reverand David Chapin, plus the grand old man of the drums their 87 year old father
Jim Chapin (http://www.jimchapin.com/) who came up from Florida
I found this morning that a similar family concert was previously held on Sunday, October 17th,2004, at Tarrytown Music Hall, less than 30 minutes north of New York City see an email from Tom reproduced in a blog at:-
http://badanimal2.blogspot.com/2004_10_01_badanimal2_archive.html
Somewhat less than half the songs performed were Harry's (the celebration was partly to commemorate the 25 years it will be in July since Harry was killed on the Long Island Expressway on the way to a benefit concert.
there was a wealth of merchandise on sale including the very latest
"Harry it still sucks" tee shirts, many CDs and cassettes by Tom including many for children and CDs by Jen Chapin and The Chapin Sisters (http://www.thechapinsisters.com/), but strangly I only saw a single CD of Harry's displayed .
before the concert we had dined extremely well at the nearby New Orleans Family Restaurant (http://www.neworleansfamily.com)
Ooh that crawfish etouffee!! (http://www.gumbopages.com/food/seafood/etouffee.html)

Great photo of these 3 legends. I am a fan of the late great Harry Chapin. Waylon was also a favourite of mine, especially in his later years. If your talking about moderator Charlene, if it's sunny in Whitby today, she wanted to do a garage sale. So maybe she's not around the computer? I may be wrong you know? Homer & Jethro, are these cats still around? :)

lol
Terry did the song at a Trib show at Hugh's Room a few months ago....marvelous rendition as are all of his Lightfoot efforts. His own material is darn fine too.
I think he's performing about 45 minutes north of Whitby tonight in Uxbridge....

John, the Chapin Family concert sounds very cool. Jen Chapin and her two sidemen (known as The Jen Chapin Trio) played for our series last year and were wonderful. Jen actually uses Harry's guitar and Carey was all psyched that he actually got to hold and strum a few chords on "Harry Chapin's guitar" (and no, I have no clue what make or model it is :) ). I never really followed Harry's career, but I like several of his songs, I like what he stood for and the person he seemed to be.

I'm so envious that you enjoyed crawfish etouffee - I haven't had any since I visited Mom in Louisiana last October. Yum!

Yes lighhead2toe, Chapin did say, 'Im the only American on the bill, And I would travel anywhere's anytime for Gordon Lightfoot. Because Gord helped him twice for benefit concerts replacement, with, James Taylor, John Denver, and Harry. But the concert for Olympic Tribute was at CNE in Toronto in Oct, 1980. Chapin died in automobile accident 1 year and 1/2 later. Im no smarter than you are, lighthead2toe, but just wanted to clarify this. :) ;)
Wow front row, that must have been great, but the rain didn't bother you?

Hello to you, lighthead 2 toe. :) True Canuck style is right. :D No I was not at that gig, but got it videotaped from the TV broadcast. It was in October on TV, but it may have been taped earlier, maybe in early September? However it was in 1980. Gord and Harry, seemed to be feeling no pain at that concert. It was just 2 years before he stopped drinking, Labor Day 1982, he had his last drink. Great willpower that Genius... :) ;)
