in this week's Motoring Telegraph at:-

with special reference to their advanced collision avoidance system
according to research by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration which opined:-
"most of your fellows are too busy chatting on their mobiles, doing their make-up or drinking coffee to concentrate on the view ahead. As a result, they are three times more likely to be involved in an accident."
This is after
"Two groups of researchers monitored the behaviour of 241 Virginia drivers in 100 vehicles for a year. Those vehicles covered a total of more than two million miles and in that time were involved in 82 crashes and 761 near-misses. The results suggest that 80 per cent of all accidents and 65 per cent of near-crashes happen within three seconds of some sort of driver distraction and that can be as short as a glance in the rear-view mirror.

"The most amazing thing," says Erik Coelingh, "is that they all knew they were being watched by video cameras yet still had 82 accidents."
Take care especially in Virginia!!!
