Just announced - Dennis Weaver (Gunsmoke, McCloud) died last weekend from cancer at age 81. Dang, they're dropping like flies lately.

I just heard this too and my comment was the same!
Very sad.

I just read. I'm starting to get this bad feeling that this is going to be like 2003 was. :(

It seemed like a famous person was leaving everyday that year. (Especially in the case of John Ritter & Johnny Cash).

I also think the excesses that some people engaged in long ago are catching up with them. I know Weaver like most in Hollywood smoked but then again you didn't say lung cancer.

I did watch McCloud & Gunsmoke in my early years,I remember him more for the McCloud series though. I especially liked him in "Duel",Steven Speilberg's first professional directing job that was a TV movie in '71/'72.

Like the rest,I hope he's in a good place.

Along with these and others mentioned these folks are included:

Richard Bright (Feb. 18th) played Al Neri in The Godfather and most recently guested on Law & Order SVU and Sopranos.

Anthony Franciosa - "The Name Of The Game".

Andreas Katsulas of "Babylon 5"

Author Peter Benchly who wrote the "Jaws" novel, which became the movie.

and of course Sean Penn's brother Chris Penn, who learned to dance from Kevin Bacon in Footloose.

I just hope I'm wrong about it being like '03.
