Has anyone heard anything about Donny Osmond's new album? One of the interns at Universal I work with has been talking about it. What is that, like, 50 albums he's done or something? His latest single, Breeze on By, is pretty good; check it out on iTunes.

I saw him several times in "Joesph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat" when he performed it here many years ago-he was absolutley fabulous. He was gorgeous and had been working out for the scenes with no shirt - very nice!
I remember watching the TV show with Marie and the Osmonds always on the Andy Williams XMAS special. He's done well for himself and so have all the Osmonds. And they were and still are a very nice bunch of people.
Still the complete polar opposite to freaky Michael Jackson tho!

Well, I have to defend both John Denver and Barry Manilow. My step-sister used to tease me constantly about them, esp. Manilow. Hey, I liked him! But, I loooooooove Gord! I was just going to say only people in New Jersey don't know that yet about me... but, then I remembered John and Susan! LOL !!! And, yeah, you have to admit Donnie's cute. And his family has done very well for themselves. All that popularity with nary a bad word or lapse in morals. Pretty good in the entertainment biz.

I'll defend John Denver. I like his music and he's a great guitarist. I find that I get bored with his music if I listen to it too much, though.

I'm not too fond of Barry Manilow. I guess I liked him in the beginning, but he just turned too Vegas for my tastes.

I like Manilow's ballads, he has a great voice. But like Cathy said I can't only listen for so long. Denver - he's a different story, I have always really enjoyed him. He was home grown (so was his smoke)and pretty down to earth. I was sad when he died. He left great music behind though.

I think of Barry Manilow as one of the last old-style Tin Pan Alley songwriters. As put in oneof his biographies, "unlike many of his MOR peers, Manilow wasn't aiming to make smooth, restrained background music -- he conceived of himself as a pop entertainer and all-around showman in the classic mold, and his performances and stage shows were accordingly theatrical."

He made a living (and a good one) writing advertising jingles (State Farm, Dr. Pepper, McDonald's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and more) then became pianist, arranger and music director for Bette Midler, before she was THE Bette Midler. I've always liked "Weekend in New England" myself.

As for John Denver he wrote some beautiful songs; he's one of those singer songwriters I can and occasionally do sing along with instead of just listen (and "Grandma's Feather Bed" is just fun.) He had a darker life than his sunny persona hinted at, like anyone else. But his joy and enthusiasm were infectious, and his commitment to the environment real. He did indeed leave a wonderful musical legacy.

btw, years ago i toyed with learning piano chords and progressions to Manilow tunes and same with guitar to Denver tunes, really makes you appreciate their writing (like Gord's) when you can see it layed out in front of you and not only via audio, imo

I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts! Thought I'd jump in because, while I like all of the entertainers mentioned (Denver, Manilow, Lightfoot, Osmond...I still listen to all their music)Donny Osmond stands out above them all. I have had the pleasure of meeting Donny personally, a number of times, and I can tell you from experience, he is as kind, genuine, and talented a man as you could ever hope to meet. His voice has gotten better over the years. You must buy his new CD "What I Meant to Say" and hear it for yourself. He has written and produced most of the material himself and it is being met with much enthusiasm by his fans and even those who have "doubted" his talent in the past. The new CD is selling fast. You have heard correctly - Donny does have a new CD out. It is called "What I Meant To Say" and it is by far is best yet!. He has a excellent voice - full of power and most of the music was written and produced by Donny. It has something for everyone. I honestly think you would love it and I highly recommend getting it. If you have AOL you can go out & listen to it there and it is also available on ITunes. This is a must have! And as many of you have said he is definitely very good looking and it's worht getting the CD for the pictures on the CD cover/envelope.

Donny's new album is FANTASTIC! He co-wrote nearly all the songs on there and the few covers he did, he made them his own. He has the most amazing voice and is really passionate about his music, this is a great album and I highly recommend it!

Yes Donny's new alblum what "What I Meant To Say" is his best ever. His voice is much more mature these days and as sexy as ever. I have followed Donny's career from the beginning and this album as an affect on me as much as those early songs did. It is well worth a listen by everyone even my 18 and 20 year old kids enjoy it and it is so cool to hear them singing along to it. Well done to DONNY OSMOND1

First of all...it's Donny! Not Donnie.
Second...this man is hot. Third...until you have 40+ years in the entertainment business and 54 albums to your credit...I wouldn't criticize. Bubblegum music? I don't think so! What I Meant To Say is a compilation of mature songs. Maybe Donny is known for sappy love songs, but what is wrong with love? Maybe if the world had a little more happiness & love...there might be peace. It's refreshing to hear a song you can understand and that doesn't have the f--- word all the time.

Actually, I think Donny is a very talented individual, and he has a great voice. I saw a video a few years back where he was dressed in a loose white shirt, singing a song outside with the wind blowing his hair around. I remember thinking, "Wow, he turned out to be very handsome." I guess I'll give his new CD a try.
I have very strange taste in music. It's all over the place. I mean, I just adore Gord's music and he will always be my favorite, but I find myself branching out more and more as I get older. I listen to stuff now that I would have never listened to ten or twenty years ago, stuff that just wasn't cool when I was younger. Last night I went out and bought five CDs: Boxcar Willie's Greatest Hits, The Songbook Of Blues (with old Delta blues artists), Ray Charles' Greatest Hits, The Beach Boys' Sounds Of Summer, and Jimi Hendrix Greatest Hits. I guess I'll have to add Donny to that odd collection.

"What I meant to say" by Donny Osmond is a brilliant CD. It would be so difficult to choose your favourite track on this album as they are all excellent. Listen for yourself on AOL. One in particular which stands out for me is the song which Donny wrote for his boys. It is called "Whenever You're in Trouble". It is also a tribute to his mom,Olive who died in May last year.
I met Donny for the first time in December last year. I have been a fan since 1972/73.
He is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. He has time for his fans and often comes on to his website www.Donny.com (http://www.Donny.com) to post messages to us.
As I say listen to the CD yourself on Aol.
I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Donny Osmond's album is a very grown-up version of Donnny's music. His voice is strong and has matured impressively. The ballads are personal and moving. The upbeat songs are strong and really get you going. Give the album a try, you won't be sorry. Donny Osmond works very hard, and deserves to be listened to. Go see what I mean. This is a discussion forum for Gordon Lightfoot--how cool!

I am in fact English, but I have now lived in Wales for four years, I had problems to begin with, but I am used to the accent now - but they are lovely, friendly people, and I love it here.

Where abouts in Wales do your relatives come from?

And another little fact that might interest you (sorry if it doesn't) because of Donny and his forum, which has become like a huge community, I have got so many friends in the States now, from all over, I went over to the States with my family in August 04, to New York, New Jersey, Utah (Donny Land LOL) and Orlando - and I met up with a lot of them, it was fantastic, I can't wait to get back there.

Well, they told me where they were from, but I didn't understand what they were saying, and it didn't do any good for them to spell it out to me, because there were several letters in the address, none that make a lick of sense in the English language. I guess I'll have to e-mail them and have them spell it out for me.

I went to aol.com and tried to listen to Donny, but the audio kept cutting in and out. Maybe there were too many of you Donny Divas listening at the time. I'll try again tomorrow morning.

Okay, so Donny Osmond is not pn the same playing field as Gordon, but to satisfy my curiousity I bought his latest CD, "What I mean to say." and guess what? It is damn good. Did not waste my money at all. He wrote and produced most of the songs and after all these years, seems on track to putting out quality music. Tender ballads plus songs that will get you on your feet; a nice romantic CD. One song sucks - "One Dream" sounds like Christian pop- but otherwise quality material. His voice is smooth and sexy.
