I hope I'm not jinxing them, but the Calgary Flames are one game away from bringing Lord Stanley's cup back to hockey's home and native land. I'm an American, and I love the U.S.-- but I love hockey too much to want the NHL champions to be in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Sorry, False Alarm--
Calgary got struck by Lightning and went down in Flames. Boy, they put up a heck of a fight!

and to make things worse - I am heading to sarasota (near Tampa) to visit my sister at her home at the end of July....we had a big Toronto/Atlanta rivalry going with the baseball World Series back when she was living in Atlanta in the early 90's. That was wonderful because Toronto won the series! This Florida thing is killing me tho.....
GO LEAFS GO!

If it is any consolation to you Canucks...the Tampa hockey team is owned by Bill Davidson who is from Michigan and also owns the Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Shock women's NBA team. They are all close neighbors of the Detroit Red Wings, one of the original NHL hockey franchises and, as we all know, the rightful owners of the Stanley Cup ... based in HockeyTown (Detroit) which is just across the river (to the north) of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. So, we'll let them borrow Lord Stanley's Cup for a year down there in Florida and return it to its rightful location next season! (If not in Hockeytown, then to our neighbors in Canada.)

Where in Florida is it? I live one state above Florida. If it's not too far south, I may go see it.

I don't know much about hockey but after reading the thread, my guess would be: Tampa? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

regardless of who wins the cup it always resides at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto....each team member gets a day with it to take where they wish...it does some personal appearances through the year and when not on tour it's in Toronto....there is a duplicate as well...

Well, there ya go. However, if the team who won it did take it home, it would be Tampa - right? http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

Charlene is correct that there is a duplicate Stanley Cup. In fact, it is this duplicate Cup that each player from the winning team gets to take to their home town for a day during the off season. For obvious security reasons, the genuine Stanley Cup rarely leaves the vault of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
