Could anyone update me about how Gordon is doing? Last I read was that he would be having more surgery this spring.

He had surgery on February 17th, and came through the long operation okay. Whether or not the transplanted muscles "took" we haven't heard. He expected it would be May or June before he and his doctors would know for sure whether or not he would be able to perform again. If so, he hopes to resume concerts in early 2005.

Great. Someone needs to do something for him. He is a unrecognized treasure. One of the most prolific great singer-song writers of our times.

The new company supporting his forthcoming CD ("Harmony"), Linus Entertainment, has been very pro-active, hosting his new video "Inspiration Lady" and getting it in rotation on MuchMusic and CMT and arranging with iTunes to preview/sell 3 cuts in advance of release of the "Harmony" CD on May 11th. Check Gord's Linus webpage at http://www.linusentertainment.com/artists/gordon/gordon.shtml

Sadly, some people are not fully regcognized until after they are dead http://www.corfid.com/ubb/frown.gif (like Emily Dickinson).

I guess I misspoke a bit. Gordon is recognized by those in the business for his artistry, but sometimes it seems the public just doesn't get it. This man is a lyrical giant up there with Tom Waits and Dylan.

As we all recognize and agree, Thimpin. And, Gord is recognized and honoured many times over in his homeland of Canada. Unfortunately, he has tended to be dismissed by too many in music's "officialdom" here in the States; dismissed today as being a has-been by an industry that thrives on the next big act and the latest record sales numbers. I've been pleased so far by the effort put forth by Linus Ent. to re-establish Gord's identity stateside. Placing the advance cuts on iTunes was a clear masterstroke at trying to bring Gord's incredible singer/songwriter talent to the attention of today's music buying generation, while also rewarding those of us who have stayed loyal to him throughout the years.

I see Gordon stepping on stage, singing like he never left and just knockin' everybody's socks off! I predict that with efforts from LINus,I-tunes,maybe VH1 and resumed touring,he may enjoy a well deserved second-coming! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/wink.gif
One of the greatest things that could happen, even if it were only once,is if he actually graced the U.S. top 40! If he did that this year,he would have the longest amount of time between top 40 hits:26 years! Even if he only made the hot 100,I'd be glad because it would be his 1st self-charter since 1982's,"Baby Step Back".

To put it another way,he needs to be recognized for every aspect of his musical works before what DMD3 mentioned happens (not for a good 37-40 years in my book!).

It's ben me,later! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

Speaking of his health, he has a serious weight problem like me.

I wouldn't call what doctors attribute alot of his survival from what he went through a "serious weight problem". What gave him his wirey look before the illness, a dedication to exercise and healthier living after he quit drinking, is what saved his life. He probably could gain weight if he wanted to once he heals completely. I think it was a personal choice to look so lean and not "a problem".

Ever since the 2002 concert,I still have had a bit of difficulty with acceepting his skinnier look. I know it's healthier but it's just that after perceiving him for one way for so long (I.E.:His 1970s LP covers) it's not an easy frame of mind to switch.

I've gotten more used to it though. I think his recovery makes the acceptance greater. Had he been the way he was,he might not have had such a good recovery. (Or worse.)

Anyway,been me,Aurevoir! http://www.corfid.com/ubb/cool.gif

Mr. Gordon Lightfoot is, by far, the best folk singer and songwriter the 20th century has ever seen. Although he is a mastermind of making music, he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Another Canadian band, Rush, also is not recognized here in the United States, as they should be. Yet, when these people come to concert, the radio stations are all over it; go figure. Long live Mr. Lightfoot.

Don't worry, one day both RUSH and Gordon Lightfoot will be in the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If the "hall" had any sense they'd have put them in years ago.

I agree with the local deejay here in Louisville who interviewed GL on the air (lucky stiff...) and said, "Another 30 or 40 years, then you can go."
