The compassion you reflect in your songs is apparent to all that hear your music. One of my favorite songs among all artists over the fast four decades is your "Ode to Big Blue." I am touched and can feel my eyes tearing each time I hear the words. Last evenings' news cast, showed video footage of the recently renewed cruel and senseless slaughter of baby seals (at the rate of 10,000 per hour we are told) by your fellow-countrymen and subsidized by the Canadian government. To see them look up at their executioners with those big trusting eyes before having their brains bashed out is heartbreaking. How could any human perform such a task, no matter how much the pay. If ever there was a cause in search of a protest song, this would have to top the list.

Can nothing be done by you and your fellow Canadians to stop this carnage?

I wrote to the newspaper when I heard about the babyseal hunting had been opened up again. I was told the reason was that there is very little work in the area the seals are being killed and that the increased demand from Russia for the pelts. I hate that this is happening and I wish somebody would find a more humane way to accomplish this "feat". My hope is that they would be put on the endangered species list, if there is the killing at the rate you stated it shouldn't take long. Perhaps the Russian countries would join the rest of the world and not desire the wares from the skins of these beautiful creatures.
I have to admit that I turn a blind eye to somethings that offend me (like this does) because I am unable to do anything to stop it. Admittedly a coward.
