I'll be offlist for a few days. My Dad died yesterday morning, collapsed at home. He'd been living with congestive heart disease for 15 years, plus diabetes and lately spinal arthritis. I'm coping okay but a little concerned about our 13 year old daughter who's taken it very hard. Thanks for being here, gang.

Auburn Annie,
I wish you strength to get through...I pray your daughter finds the joy she has known with your dad as her balance in this loss.

Thank you, everybody, for your prayers and good thoughts. We're doing okay, and my daughter, while still getting the sniffles, has settled down. We had people out the door and down the street for the caling hours, and an honor guard at the funeral (my dad was a retired police chief.) The weather held - there was actual sun at the grave site. We had a wonderful luncheon afterwards but if I ever see another doughnut again it'll be too soon.
"Neighbors bring food with death and flowers with illness and little things in between" as Harper Lee says in To Kill a Mockingbird, and boy, it's true. Doughnuts and muffins and bagels and coffee and cakes and pies and cold cuts, etc. etc. etc. Almost too much. Anyway, thanks again, guys.
