Anybody know of any connections between Gord and "The Band"? They are my all time favorite Band......Both of them originated in the southern Ontario area. Somewhere I saw some pictures of them togather while playing in toronto a long time ago.....

I think Marsen is asking about the connection between Gord and the musical group called The Band - of "Up On Cripple Creek" and "The Nght They Drove Old Dixie Down" fame http://www.corfid.com/ubb/smile.gif

I don't know of any connection except maybe the six degrees of separation type....Gord and Dylan are friends and The Band used to back Dylan. There may be more of a connection that someone more familiar with them could offer.

The Band was orginally called the "Hawks" and backed up Ronnie Hawkins in the early 1960's. Hawkins & Lightfoot were natural friends as Hawkins played Le Cog D'Or & Lightfoor Steeles Tavern, all on Yonge Street. Ronnie Hawkins, Gord Lightfoot, Ian Tyson & Sylvia Fricker, Joni Mitchell, later Neil Young - all greats from that 1960's era, playing in T.O. Tyson & Lightfoot are still in touch. Tyson is currently recognized as the pre-eminant cowboy sinder/songwriter in North America.

Then there's the Cathy Smith connection: Levon Helm and Gordon Lightfoot.
