Acadian Driftwood

In addition to being a huge Lightfoot fan, I also like the music of 'The Band'. I have often thought that a Gordon Lightfoot rendition of Acadian Driftwood would be enjoyable.

The best place to begin is by buying the albums Music From Big Pink and The Band.

I wouldn't recommend a greatest hits or anthology with The Band.
They are an albums band, {Pardon the pun}

I was thinking. In addition to being a major fan of Gordon Lightfoot I am also a huge Neil Young fan. I was listening to Neil earlier and I was thinking that it would be good if Gord were to cover "Like A Hurricane" or "Old Man" or "Star Of Bethlehem"

Florian - for your enlightenment:

"The Band" have also backed Bob Dylan (there is a great live album called "Before the Flood"). In later days Robbie Roberston has not only become a moderately successful solo artist but has also produced some of Neil Diamond´s best work like the 1976 "Beautiful Noise" album.

Thanks for the many responses. Isn't it funny that I am also a Neil Young fan. Wow! My latest purchase of 'The Band' is a three disc anthology titled 'Across The Great Divide' which consists of two discs, primarily of studio recordings, and one of mostly live stuff. Give it a try.

Regarding covers I realized another good song for Gord to cover would be "Southern Cross" by Crosby Stills and Nash.

Hi Janice,

I have purchased "The Band (1969)" and "Music from Big Pink (1968)".

I've listened to both CD's and can't say I've made friends with either of them.

Generally, I'm very open minded as far as musical taste goes, but there was not a single song on these CD's that I can honestly say I like.

I'm not much of a music-critic, so my categories are very simple:

I hope I don't step on anybody's toes here, but I rate these two albums category 6.

Hi Florian,

I love your categories...you're much more generous then I am. I only have two...that which I like and that which I don't.

As far as The Band goes, I've never been a follower so I'm not really familiar with all of their work. However, I do like a couple of the somgs they've recorded. "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" and "Forever Young" are great songs, although I prefer Joan Baez's covers. "Long Black Veil" is another great tune. But there again, I prefer Lefty Frizzell's cover...Hoyt Axton's is good too. I like The Band's version of "Up On Cripple Creek" and I'm quite sure it's because of the long ago memory it invokes everytime I hear it. I'm sorry you didn't like The Band. I hope that doesn't make you hesitant in listening to some of the other suggestions mentioned in the "songwriters" thread.
